Tingri To Everest Trekking Details

Tingri to Everest trekking till the Rongbuk monastery takes four days with unobstructed views of the stunning north face. Tibet’s Everest Base Camp at the Rongbuk Monastery is the best place to see the world’s highest mountain.

A trek into the Everest base camp from Tingri could follow several routes. However, we are choosing the most demanding path and the most rewarding in terms of scenery.

We will follow a high ridge with good views of Mount Everest to the village of Zommug and then to the Rongbuk monastery. Moreover, at the Rongbuk monastery, we have the best spot to see Mt. Everest North Face.

TINGRI TO EVEREST TREKKING HIGHLIGHTS

Tingri To Everest Trekking Itinerary

Day 1Arrive at Gongkar Airport, Lhasa

Upon arrival at the Lhasa Gongkar airport / Lhasa train station, our client will warmly welcome our Tibetan local tour guide and the driver with the traditional Tibetan white scarf.

We were driving for about an hour from the airport to Lhasa. So it’s just half an hour from the train station to the hotel.

After check-in at the hotel, the guide will be briefing the tour itineraries for the next day. And the rest of the day will be your free time to relax in the hotel.

It’s advisable to relax in the hotel to acclimatise to the high altitude. Today is the first day of your Tingri to Everest trekking tour in Tibet.

Day 2Sightseeing in Lhasa

We will begin our visit from Jokhang Temple, one of the most sacred temples in Tibet. The Jokhang temple was built in the 7th century by the 33rd king of Tibet – Songtsen Gampo.

“Jokhang” means the temple of the Buddha builds for the enshrinement of the Shakyamuni image. This is because the statue of the Buddha is said to be made during the lifetime of Shakyamuni.

After visiting the temple, you can explore the surrounding Barkhor street and spend time walking around the Temple following pilgrims from all over the Tibetan plateau.

In the afternoon, we will visit Sera Monastery, one of three great monasteries of Gelugpa school and attend the debating session of the monks, which is quite popular in Sera.

Day 3Sightseeing in Lhasa

Today we visit the stunning Potala Palace – the landmark of Lhasa. Potala is the winter palace that was built in the 17th century by the fifth Dalai Lama. The visit to Potala Palace provides excellent views of the entire city, the private quarters of the Dalai Lama and many chapels.

Then we are going to visit the Norbulingka Palace, the summer palace of the Dalai Lama. The Norbu Lingka Palace was built in the 18th century by the seventh Dalai Lama.

Day 4Lhasa to Gyantse

Today is the scenic drive with breathtaking high passes and the holy lakes passing today. Driving along the Lhasa river till the Lhasa Airport and we cross Kampa-la Pass [4797m] and then Karo-la Pass [5050m], where Mt. Nyanchen Khangsar [7206m] glacier lies near the road.

In the middle, we enjoy the unreal turquoise waters of holy lake Yamdrok-Yumtso. This lake is one of the four sacred lakes in Tibet.

Finally, we arrive at Gyantse town, where we visit the considered best Tibetan art paintings in Kumbum Stupa inside Pelkor Chode Monastery. Also, we admire the majestic Gyantse Dzong (fortress) overlooking the valley.

Day 5Gyantse to Shigatse

After breakfast, we visit the Gyantse Dzong, and then we drive North-West to reach the second largest city in Tibet Autonomous Region – Shigatse. At there, we visit Tashilhunpo Monastery, built in the 15th century by the first Dalai Lama.

Nowadays is the spiritual seat for the successive Panchen Lamas. Therefore, we recommend doing Kora around Tashilhunpo Monastery if times allows. There will be an incredible panorama view of the valley and impressive Dzong (fortress) on the way to the kora.

Day 6Shigatse to Old Tingri (4250m)

We will drive about 300km to Old Tingri, starting our trek to the Everest Base Camp. It is advisable to take a shower and good rest on this day since there is no chance to shower for the next 5days.

Day 7Trek from Tingri to Lungthang (4510m)

Today is the first day of our 4days Tingri to Everest trekking. We start our first day of trekking on the Tingri plain and will feel the vastness of this massive land as we walk through it for the first time.

We pass through some villages as we make our way south, heading in the direction of Cho Oyu. But, first, we will pass through the town of Cholung, and we can visit the small Gompa there.

Day 8Trek to Lamna La (5150m)

After breakfast, we get into some more serious trekking. We head up in the mountains towards the top of Lamna La (5150m).

This is a hard day trekking with a lot of uphill walking, but of course, the higher you go, the better the views are!

We have sensational views as we ascend the Himalayan Range. We camp near the Langma La this night.

Day 9Trek to Zommug (4790m)

We begin or trek with a steep descent from Lamna La towards Zommug, where we will camp tonight. On this side of the pass, the vegetation here is lusher than on the Dingri side and can support hundreds of yaks and a few herders’ families.

As we get approach, we can see the whitewashed walls of Zommug village. This is the highest permanent settlement in the Everest region and is set high above the valley in a moon-like landscape of barren hills, with views of Mount Everest and Gyachung Kang. Because crops cannot survive at this elevation, all families residing here rely upon animal husbandry.

Day 10Trek to Everest Base Camp / Rongbuk [5020m]

Today is the final day of our four days Tingri to Everest trekking. We make our way towards the Rongbuk monastery, the Everest Base Camp.

Tonight we will camp just next to the Rongbuk monastery, where we will have the most stunning view of Mt. Everest. Another small Gompa called Dza Rongbuk and its accompanying hermitage retreats were introduced to the world in the 1920s through the accounts of the first British mountaineering teams. It is situated 2 kilometres above the Rongbuk monastery.

Day 11Rongbuk to Kyirong

It’s worth taking some pictures of the sunrise on Mt. Everest early morning, but the temperature can get freezing, so wear enough clothes to protect yourself from the extreme cold.

After breakfast, your guide will take you to visit the Rongbuk monastery – the highest monastery in the world and continue the drive to go west to Kyirong County.

Day 12Cross the border and back to home - Sweet home

Your Guide Driver will drop you off at the border bridge between Nepal and Tibet in the morning. After the border formalities, you need to walk for 50m to the Nepal side.

From then, our Tingri to Everest trekking in Tibet officially end. Have a safe journey after that
